In-Home Family Photography in Atlanta & Marietta, GA

There’s something about looking back at old family photos and noticing all the little things you didn’t realize you’d miss. The couch where everyone piled together. The tiny bedroom that somehow held a million toys. The kitchen where your toddler insisted on helping with absolutely everything, even though their version of helping usually meant creating twice the mess. And then one day, those rooms look different. The toys are gone, the beds are bigger, and the little people who once followed you everywhere suddenly don’t need you quite as much.

That’s why I love in-home family photography so much. As an Atlanta and Marietta family photographer, I’ve spent years documenting families in all different seasons of life, and there’s something especially meaningful about photographing them in the place where so much of their story unfolds. Your home doesn’t have to be perfect. Your kids don’t have to behave perfectly. And you certainly don’t have to wait for the weather to warm up to have beautiful family photos taken.

Why Your Home Is One of the Most Meaningful Places for Family Photos

I think sometimes we get so caught up in making sure our family photos look beautiful that we forget how meaningful the location itself can be. We spend so much time searching for the perfect field, the prettiest sunset, or the most beautiful backdrop. And don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love a good golden-hour family session. But your home? That’s a completely different kind of beautiful.

It’s where your babies took their first steps. Where you rocked them to sleep. Where your kids learned to climb onto the couch, built forts out of every blanket you owned, and turned the living room into their own personal playground. It’s where your family actually lives, and I think there’s something incredibly special about documenting that.

When I photograph an in-home family session, I’m not trying to turn your house into something it isn’t. I want to document the things that make it yours. Maybe that’s everyone snuggled together in the primary bedroom, your toddler jumping on the bed while you and your husband laugh, or the kids piled onto the living room couch reading books and playing games. If you’ve got a front porch, I love the idea of wrapping everyone in a cozy blanket, grabbing a favorite book, and spending a few minutes together outside. These are the kinds of moments that might seem ordinary right now, but I promise you, they won’t always feel that way.

Why Winter Is the Perfect Time for an In-Home Family Session

One of the biggest misconceptions about family photography is that you have to wait until spring or fall to schedule a session. And listen, I get it. Nobody is particularly excited about dragging their kids into a freezing field in January. Myself included. But here’s what I want you to remember. Your children are still growing in November. They’re still changing in December. They’re still losing teeth, learning new things, developing little personalities, and reaching milestones in January and February. Childhood doesn’t take a break because it’s 35 degrees outside.

In-home family photography gives families in Atlanta and Marietta an opportunity to document those seasons without worrying about cold temperatures, unpredictable Georgia weather, or whether their toddler is going to last more than five minutes outside. Instead, we get to slow things down. Your kids can play with their favorite toys, you can cuddle together on the couch, and we can move from the living room to the bedrooms, finding the prettiest natural light along the way. Some of the sweetest family moments happen when nobody feels like they’re actually having their picture taken.

What to Expect During an In-Home Family Photography Session

If you’ve never had family photos taken at home, you might be wondering what we’re actually going to do for the entire session. Are we just going to sit on the couch and smile at the camera? Absolutely not. Well, maybe for a couple of pictures. Grandma deserves a good one too.

My approach to family photography is very relaxed, natural, and documentary-inspired. I want your kids to feel comfortable being themselves, and I want you to enjoy spending time with your family instead of worrying about whether everyone is cooperating. Before your session, we’ll talk about your home, the rooms with the best natural light, and the things your family loves doing together. During the session, I’ll offer gentle direction when it’s needed, but I’m also going to give you plenty of room to interact naturally.

We might start in the living room with everyone piled together on the couch, then move into one of the bedrooms for snuggles, tickle fights, or a little quiet time together. If the weather cooperates, we can even step outside onto the porch for a few photographs. And if your toddler decides halfway through that they’re done participating and would rather show me their entire collection of toy cars? That’s okay too. Sometimes those unexpected moments turn into some of my favorite photographs. The goal isn’t to make your family look perfect. It’s to create images that remind you what this season of your life actually felt like.

What Should You Wear for Family Photos at Home?

This is probably one of the biggest questions I get from moms, and I completely understand why. Coordinating outfits for an entire family can feel like a full-time job, especially when you’re trying to find something that looks beautiful, feels comfortable, and doesn’t make your husband question every life decision that led him to this moment.

The good news is that you don’t have to figure it out alone. Every family I photograph receives access to my styling guide, which helps you choose colors, textures, and outfits that photograph beautifully together. I also help my clients coordinate their clothing so everything feels cohesive without looking overly matched. For in-home family sessions, I especially love comfortable, natural clothing. Soft knits, neutral tones
